Surgical Absorbable Rapid Polyglycolic Acid (RPGA) Suture is a synthetic, polyfilament absorbable suture composed from fast-acting polyglycolic acid (PGA), coated with polycaprolactone and calcium stearate. This suture offers a rapid absorption profile, a low infection rate, and exhibits high tensile strength, similar to natural collagen sutures (catguts).
The reduced inflammatory response associated with PGA stems from its synthetic nature, as it is not a naturally occurring organic substance. Absorption occurs through hydrolysis. These sutures demonstrate exceptional tensile strength and knot security.
Around day 5 post-implantation, RPGA retains roughly 50% of its initial tensile strength, providing effective wound support for 10-14 days, after which it loses all tensile strength. The absorption of Rapid PGA reaching near completion within 40-45 days.
- Rapid absorption
- Excellent elasticity
- Very low tissue reaction, due to its synthetic nature
- Simple passage through tissues due to its low frictional coefficient.
- Excellent histocompatibility
